Professor Andrew Cruden is the Associate Dean (Infrastructure) at the University of Southampton and holds a Professorship in Energy Systems. His research focuses on renewable energy integration, electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure, and grid-independent charging solutions. He leads the FEVER project, aiming to develop cost-effective renewables-powered EV charging stations. He has supervised numerous PhD students in Engineering and Environmental Science.
Cruden has held external roles such as Director of the Argyll, Lomond and the Islands Energy Agency (1999–2012) and Scottish Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Association (2004–2012). He has also served as an invited speaker at international workshops, including the U.S. Department of Energy/EERA Smart Grid R&D Workshop (2011).
His research collaborations include projects funded by EPSRC and the Faraday Institution, focusing on battery technology, energy storage, and grid-scale solutions. Key projects include the TransEnergy Road-to-Rail Energy Exchange and the Joint UK-India Clean Energy Centre (JUICE).
