معرفی
Andrew Cole is a Research Fellow at James Cook University affiliated with the ARC Centre of Excellence for Coral Reef Studies, which operated at JCU from 2005 to 2022. He completed his PhD at the university in 2011 and began his research fellowship in 2012 within the Macroalgal Biofuels and Bioproducts project.
Dr. Cole earned his PhD from James Cook University in 2011 under the supervision of Morgan Pratchett, Shaun Wilson and Geoff Jones. His doctoral research focused on the functional importance of coral-feeding fishes and assessed the energetic costs of chronic predation on reef-building corals.
His research spans coral reef ecology, marine biology, and sustainable resource management with particular expertise in fish-coral interactions and macroalgal systems. Currently leading the Biomass Scale Up subprogram, his work optimizes macroalgal biomass production and develops aquatic waste stream bioremediation solutions. This research provides cost-effective nutrient management options while establishing platforms for sustainable commercial macroalgal production.
As leader of the Biomass Scale Up subprogram, Dr. Cole directs research focused on creating economically viable solutions for nutrient bioremediation through optimized macroalgal cultivation systems. His work bridges fundamental ecological understanding with practical applications for environmental management.
