Darren Coker is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Red Sea Research Centre, King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST). He holds a PhD from James Cook University (JCU), where his doctoral research focused on coral habitats' ecological roles for reef fishes. His supervisors included Prof. Morgan Pratchett and others. Prior to KAUST, he conducted a research fellowship at the ARC Centre of Excellence for Coral Reef Studies (ARC CoE CRS), examining climate change impacts on reef fisheries.
His research interests center on reef fish ecology, biodiversity patterns, cryptobenthic communities, and disturbance dynamics in the Red Sea. He employs interdisciplinary approaches, including DNA analysis to study coral resilience and socioeconomic assessments of climate change effects on fisheries and vulnerable populations.
Recent work includes studies on coral heat tolerance adaptation and the socioeconomic implications of climate change on tropical fisheries. Darren has collaborated with institutions like AIMS and the Department of Environment and Conservation (WA).
