Professor Andrew Clegg is a Professor of Geriatric Medicine at the University of Leeds, School of Medicine, where he serves as Head of Ageing and Stroke Research. He is also an Honorary Consultant Geriatrician at Bradford Royal Infirmary, Director of the global Ageing Research Trialist (ART) collaborative, and Co-Director for Health Data Research UK (HDRUK) North. His work focuses on improving care for older people, particularly those with frailty and multimorbidity.

Professor Clegg's research expertise lies in ageing, multimorbidity, frailty, delirium, and dementia. He pioneered the electronic frailty index (eFI), which is NICE Multimorbidity Guideline-recommended and has significantly influenced UK health policy. His methodological strengths include clinical trials, prognostic modelling using routine data, applied epidemiology, and evidence synthesis.
He leads a substantial research portfolio totaling approximately £44 million, with current major projects including the NIHR-funded PROSPER programme (Personalised Care Planning for Older People with Frailty), the CHART trial for heart failure patients with frailty, and the Community Ageing Research 75+ cohort study.
