Andrew Bustard serves as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Aerospace Engineering within Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University's College of Engineering. His research program focuses on advancing hypersonic propulsion technologies, specifically supersonic-combustion ramjets (scramjets), with the goal of enabling revolutionary global air travel capabilities.
His educational foundation includes:
- Ph.D. in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, University of Notre Dame (2025)
- M.S. in Aerospace Engineering, University of Notre Dame
- Bachelor of Applied Science in Engineering Science, University of Toronto (2019)
Professor Bustard's experimental approach centers on high-resolution surface measurement techniques that provide comprehensive spatial data for hypersonic flow analysis. His work bridges fundamental fluid dynamics with practical propulsion engineering, targeting the expansion of scramjet operational envelopes through innovative boundary-layer control and thermal management strategies. This research directly addresses critical barriers to sustained hypersonic flight.
As a newly appointed faculty member following his 2025 doctorate, Professor Bustard is establishing his research laboratory and developing experimental capabilities in hypersonic aerodynamics. Prospective graduate students interested in hands-on experimental work with advanced optical diagnostics should contact him directly regarding research assistantships and lab opportunities.
