Dr. Andrew Biro is a Professor of Politics at Acadia University, with affiliations in the Environmental and Sustainability Studies (ESST) and Social and Political Thought programs. His research focuses on environmental politics (especially water), critical theory, political economy, and media's role in shaping political discourse. He holds a Ph.D. and M.A. from York University and a B.A. from the University of Toronto.
His teaching includes courses on climate change politics, American government, media and politics, and political philosophy. Recent publications include Organizing Nature: Turning Canada’s Ecosystems into Resources (2023) and Critical Ecologies (2011). His work often bridges critical theory with ecological challenges, exploring themes like alienation from nature, virtual water trade, and the Anthropocene’s political implications.
Publications span books, journal articles, and edited volumes, addressing topics like bottled water commodification, global water politics, and film’s portrayal of economic crises.
