Andrew Barnett

Andrew Barnett is a Lecturer in Engineering Management at the University of Wolverhampton's School of Engineering within the Faculty of Science and Engineering. He holds a Master's degree in Design Technology from the same institution and a BEng (Hons) from the University of Central England. His professional roles have included Head of Engineering at WALCAT (2002–2004) and prior lecturer positions dating back to 1988. Barnett has also worked in non-academic roles such as Knowledge Transfer Manager for Environmental Technologies and Resource Efficiency Support Service (2017–2019) and Engineer at JC Payne (UK) Ltd (2014–2017).

His research focuses on circular economy design, bio-degradable plastics, laser/water jet processing, surface modification of materials, light weighting of vehicles, and smart manufacturing integration. He emphasizes environmental technologies like waste heat utilization and resource efficiency, alongside automation and robotics applications in SME manufacturing. He explores low-cost software and sensing solutions for SME process development.

Barnett’s teaching interests include Engineering/Project Management, Lean Manufacturing, Process Improvement, and Work-Based Learning. He is affiliated with professional bodies such as the Institution of Engineering & Technology, Institution of Plant Engineers, and Society of Operational Engineers.
