Dr. Andreia Ribeiro is a researcher at the Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research (UFZ), Germany, specializing in climate extremes and compound events. She holds a PhD in Geophysical Sciences from the University of Lisbon (2020) and has held postdoctoral positions at ETH Zurich and the UFZ. Her work focuses on understanding how climate extremes like wildfires, droughts, and heatwaves interact and impact ecosystems and agriculture. She is affiliated with the Department of Compound Environmental Risks (CER) within the 'Smart Models / Monitoring' research unit.
Her research integrates statistical methods, remote sensing, and climate modeling to assess risks associated with compound events. Notable contributions include developing frameworks for tropical fire risk assessment and analyzing the overlap of fire seasons between North America and Australia. She has published extensively in journals like Earth's Future, Environmental Research Letters, and Communications Earth & Environment.
Her career includes roles as a Humboldt Postdoc (2024–2025), Walter Benjamin Postdoc (2025–present), and Researcher at ETH Zurich (2020–2023). She has collaborated with institutions across Europe and South America, contributing to projects like the European COST Action DAMOCLES on compound events.
