Professor Andreas Waczkat serves as Professor of Historical Musicology at the University of Göttingen, stationed through the Hochschule für Musik, Theater und Medien Hannover since 2008. He has directed the Musikwissenschaftliches Seminar (Musicology Seminar) from 2008-2012 and again since 2014.
His research focuses on music within the cultural history of the 16th-18th centuries, music theory and composition history, historical musicology with new media applications, Musica Baltica, and music studies in post-totalitarian contexts. Current projects include 'Utopie und Idylle' examining the Mecklenburg-Schwerin court, 'Composers in the Gulag,' Handel's sacred music, and the digital humanities project 'eNoteHistory' for identifying scribes in 18th-century music manuscripts.
His scholarly contributions are recognized through his honorary doctorate from the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre (2019).

Professor Waczkat has held visiting positions at institutions including the University of Kiel, Hochschule für Künste Bremen, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Gdañsk Academy of Music, and Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre. From 2002-2010, he served as spokesperson for the 'Musicology and Music Education' group in the German Musicological Society and has been editor of the Cöthener Bach-Hefte since 2004.
