Andreas Dresen is a part-time artistic Professor at the Institut für Schauspiel at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Rostock (hmt Rostock), appointed since June 2018. Born in Gera (1963), he originates from a theatre family and has been a prominent figure in German cinema and the arts. His career spans film, theatre, and opera direction, alongside academic roles and activism.

- Key Roles: Member of the Academy of Arts, European Film Academy, and German Film Academy. Former Lay Judge at Brandenburg’s Constitutional Court (2012–2022).
Research/Practice: Specializes in narrative-driven filmmaking, blending tragicomedy, improvisation, and social critique. Notable works include Stilles Land (1992), Halt auf freier Strecke (2011), and GUNDERMANN (2018), which won multiple German Film Awards. His oeuvre spans feature films, documentaries (e.g., Herr Wichmann von der CDU), and operas like Don Giovanni (Basel, 2006) and La Fanciulla del West (Bavarian State Opera, 2019).
Awards: Extensive recognition includes the Silver Bear (Berlinale), Cannes prizes, and multiple German Film Awards. His 2022 film Rabiye Kurnaz VS. George W. Bush earned top screenplay and acting honors.
Advising & Collaborations: Teaches at international film academies. Co-founded a band with actor Alexander Scheer, performing Gerhard Gundermann’s music. Current projects include a film on resistance fighter Hilde Coppi.
