Andreas Pettenkofer is a Research Fellow at the Max-Weber-Kolleg of the University of Erfurt. Since March 2014, he has served as the Coordinator of the Project 'Die lokale Politisierung globaler Normen' (The Local Politicization of Global Norms). Previously, he held positions as a Postdoctoral Researcher (since January 2009) and Scientific Staff Member (since SS 2009) at the Max-Weber-Kolleg.
His academic background includes a Habilitation (2015) with the thesis 'Das Verstehen der Situation. Gewalt, Affekte und die Probleme einer hermeneutischen Soziologie' and a PhD (2007) with the dissertation 'Kritik und Gewalt. Zur Genealogie der westdeutschen Umweltbewegung' (Criticism and Violence: On the Genealogy of the West German Environmental Movement). His research focuses on hermeneutic sociology, political sociology, and environmental movements.
He has been affiliated with institutions such as the Max Planck Institute for Social Research (2007) and the University of Göttingen (2003-2006). His work explores intersections between violence, affects, and normative frameworks.
