Prof. Dr. Andreas Möglich is a full Professor of Biochemistry at the University of Bayreuth since April 2015. Previously, he led a junior research group in Research Field E4 at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin from 2011 to 2015. His research focuses on optogenetics, photoreceptors, synthetic biology, protein engineering, and biophysics. Key contributions include studies on light-reception mechanisms in photoreceptors and engineering light-activated biological systems. He has published extensively on topics such as optogenetic actuators, protein structure-function relationships, and synthetic biology applications.
His work demonstrates expertise in combining biochemical, biophysical, and molecular approaches. Notable projects include developing red-light-activated enzymes and elucidating signaling pathways in Light-Oxygen-Voltage receptors. His interdisciplinary research bridges basic science and potential biomedical applications, such as reprogrammed intestinal bacteria for adhesive materials.
Prof. Möglich’s affiliations include Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin (Institute of Biology / Biophysical Chemistry Research Group) and the University of Bayreuth. His research has been featured in journals like Scientific Reports, Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, and Nature Communications.
