Andreas Kubicek is a Research Fellow at the University of Queensland, affiliated with the ARC Laureate project led by Ove Hoegh-Guldberg. His research focuses on coral reef ecosystem functions, non-linear dynamics, and self-organizing processes under climate change. He employs spatially explicit, individual-based modeling to simulate benthic coral reef communities, analyzing responses to environmental changes like rising CO₂ levels, temperature increases, and extreme events.
Education background includes a Master in Biology from Germany, with fieldwork in Japan on intertidal algae, followed by a PhD in ecological modeling. His work integrates complex ecological interactions to inform management strategies in changing environments. He has contributed to studies on coral reef resilience, model validation frameworks, and long-term community dynamics.
Research emphasizes emerging properties of coral reef systems, such as population dynamics and community composition, under environmental pressures. His models aim to complement empirical studies, identify knowledge gaps, and evaluate management plans. Collaborations include the ARC Centre of Excellence for Coral Reef Studies (2005–2022) at James Cook University.
