Andreas Hellerstedt serves as Senior Lecturer and Associate Professor in the History of Ideas at Mid Sweden University's Department of Humanities and Social Sciences in Sundsvall. Previously, he held academic positions at Stockholm University, Södertörn University, and Lund University, establishing expertise in early modern Scandinavian intellectual traditions.
His research centers on early modern history and history of ideas, with pioneering work on natural law discourse, animal rights history, princely education, and game-based historical pedagogy. Current investigations examine humoral theory in royal education and early animal ethics, bridging historical scholarship with contemporary philosophical debates.
Recent publications (2020-2024) reveal consistent thematic focus on Swedish intellectual history, particularly natural law frameworks and educational practices. His work demonstrates methodological innovation through game-based learning applications and interdisciplinary analysis of legal, philosophical, and pedagogical texts across German-Swedish contexts.
Hellerstedt leads a Riksbanken Jubilee Fund project (2025-2028) on animal rights discourse in 1680-1760 Sweden. He actively contributes to academic networks including the European Natural Law 1625–1850 research group and Miun's MEMG (Medieval and Early Modern Group), fostering collaborative scholarship on pre-modern intellectual traditions.
