Dr. Frank Grunert is a Research Fellow at the University of Erfurt and an Associate Fellow of the Max Weber College for Advanced Cultural and Social Sciences. He is also a Research Associate at the Interdisciplinary Center for the Study of the European Enlightenment (IZEA) in Halle-Wittenberg. His academic focus spans the history of science, philosophy of law, and Enlightenment studies, with a particular emphasis on early modern natural law and the works of Christian Thomasius.

- Head of the Natural Law 1625–1850 international research project
- Head of the Research Centre for Early Modern Natural Law
His research explores intersections of natural law, political theory, and enlightenment thought, including studies on Francisco de Vitoria, Christian Wolff, and Johann Jacob Schmauss. Recent work includes analyzing racism in the Enlightenment and the ethical frameworks of 18th-century philosophers.
He has contributed to editorial boards of journals such as Grotiana and is a member of the German Society for the Study of the 18th Century. His teaching experience includes positions at the Universities of Vechta, Basel, Giessen, Zurich, Munich, and Halle.
