Professor Andreas Efstathiou is a Faculty Member and Rector at the European University Cyprus, with a distinguished career spanning institutions like Imperial College London and Queen Mary & Westfield College. His research focuses on infrared astronomy, galaxy formation, and active galactic nuclei, complemented by expertise in scientific computing.
- Education: BSc (1986) and PhD (1990) in Mathematical Sciences, both from Queen Mary College, University of London.
Andreas pioneered radiative transfer models for galaxy spectral energy distributions, applied to surveys like IRAS, Spitzer, and Herschel. His recent work includes adaptive optics studies of supernovae in infrared galaxies and analyzing Planck and ALMA data. He has led projects such as the ESA-funded CYGNUS and the Herschel Extragalactic Legacy Project.
Selected Trends: His publications emphasize infrared galaxy surveys, dust modelling, and tidal disruption events, reflecting interdisciplinary work bridging astrophysics and computational methods.
Leadership Roles: Former Chairman of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering (2005-2008) and Deputy Dean of the School of Sciences (2011-2014).
