Andrea Swartzendruber

Dr. Andrea Swartzendruber is an Associate Professor in the Department of Epidemiology & Biostatistics at the University of Georgia's College of Public Health. Her primary affiliations include the Biostatistical Consulting and Collaboration Center (B3C). She specializes in reproductive health policy, crisis pregnancy centers (CPCs), sexually transmitted infection (STI) prevention, and healthcare access disparities. Her research frequently examines the sociocultural and structural barriers impacting marginalized populations, particularly in the Southern U.S.

Key research interests include analyzing the geographic distribution and practices of CPCs, evaluating the quality of reproductive health information provided by these centers, and investigating disparities in contraceptive access. Her work also addresses LGBTQ+ health disparities, teen dating violence, and maternal health equity. Dr. Swartzendruber collaborates extensively with community organizations and policymakers to translate research findings into actionable public health strategies.

Notable recent projects include spatial analyses of CPC proximity to colleges/universities and abortion facilities, studies on emergency contraception accessibility, and interventions to improve childbirth experiences for Black birthing people. She has been a lead author on over 100 peer-reviewed publications since 2013, with current work focusing on post-Dobbs healthcare changes and period poverty advocacy.

Dr. Swartzendruber holds leadership roles in professional organizations like the Society for Adolescent Health and Medicine, contributing to policy statements on critical issues such as eliminating period poverty. Her teaching responsibilities include advanced epidemiology and public health research methods courses at UGA.
