Andrea Press is Chair of the Department of Media Studies and the William R. Kenan, Jr. Professor of Media Studies and Sociology at the University of Virginia, within the College of Arts and Sciences. She is also a College Fellow and a member of the Graduate Faculty, actively contributing to academic leadership and graduate education. Her interdisciplinary work bridges sociology, media studies, gender, and class.

Her research focuses on feminist media theory, media audiences, gender, and social class. She is known for pioneering qualitative methods in media impact studies, particularly examining how media representations affect individuals across gender and class lines. Her work has been foundational in feminist reception studies and television scholarship.
The recent publications reflect a strong trajectory in feminist media scholarship, audience studies, and interdisciplinary communication research. Themes include media-ready feminism, everyday sexism, class-based media interpretation, and the evolution of feminist television studies.
