Andrea Eross is an Associate Professor of Finance at Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh, UK. She joined in May 2016 as an Assistant Professor and was promoted to her current rank in August 2023. Her affiliations include the School of Social Sciences and the Edinburgh Business School. Eross holds a PhD in Finance from the University of Southampton (2015), an MSc in International Finance from the University of Dundee (2010), an MA in European Economy and Management from Abertay University (2008), and a BSc in Economics from Edutus College Budapest (2007).
Her research interests span risk contagion, systemic risk, green growth, cryptocurrency analysis, Bayesian modeling, and machine learning. Notable contributions include studies on feed-in-tariffs for renewable energy, Bitcoin transaction tracking, and liquidity risk in interbank markets. She has received the EICC Best Paper Award 2022 for work on cryptocurrency transaction detection.
Eross actively advises PhD students since 2016 and holds leadership roles such as Finance PhD Lead (since 2022) and Undergraduate Programme Director for Finance (2019–2022). She co-leads the Centre for Social and Economic Data Analytics (2021–2023) and chairs the Board of Programme Directors for Finance (2022–2023). Her teaching includes modules like Banking and Applied Financial Modelling in Python.
Her work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to affordable clean energy and sustainable cities. Recent research trends emphasize interdisciplinary methods (e.g., NLP, machine learning) applied to financial stability and green growth policy analysis.
