Andrea English serves as Associate Professor in Philosophy of Education at the University of Edinburgh, with prominent leadership roles including incoming President of the John Dewey Society and Executive Board member of the Philosophy of Education Society of Great Britain. She holds editorial positions as Editor of IMPACT for the Journal of Philosophy of Education and Associate Editor of Dewey Studies.
Her research centers on democratic education frameworks, specifically examining dialogic teaching methodologies and transformative learning processes. She investigates how teacher listening practices cultivate dialogic communities that enable learner voice, interthinking, and co-agency. This work extends into interdisciplinary collaborations at the intersection of STEM education, Artificial Intelligence applications, and Humanities pedagogy to advance dialogic education theory.
Dr. English leads international advisory initiatives including Finland's 'Deliberate' project on educational dialogue, leveraging her expertise to shape global discourse on democratic educational practices and inclusive learning environments.
