Andrea Ciappi, Ph.D., is an Adjunct Faculty member in the Department of Mathematics and Physics at the University of New Haven. Born and raised in Florence, Italy, they began their academic journey in Mathematics and earned their Ph.D. in Pisa. Andrea has over a decade of teaching experience, having worked as a Teaching Assistant and post-doctoral researcher at Scuola Normale Superiore in Pisa before transitioning to full-time instruction. Currently, they teach high school Mathematics and Physics in Florence and offer Mathematics courses at the University of Florence, while maintaining a collaborative role with the University of New Haven since 2014, initially as a tutor and later as a Calculus II instructor.
Research interests center on Number Theory, with a focus on bridging pure mathematics and its practical applications. Andrea emphasizes the theoretical foundations of mathematics to students, quoting Leonardo da Vinci to underscore the necessity of theory in applied contexts. They are actively involved in study abroad programs in Tuscany, connecting their academic work with international educational initiatives.
