Andrea Boon is an Assistant Professor of Recreation and Equestrian Studies at Houghton University in Houghton, NY, where she has been teaching since 2007 (prior to the institution's name change from Houghton College). She serves as an academic adviser for all equestrian majors and minors and integrates her passion for equine-assisted therapies, natural horsemanship, and spiritual growth into her pedagogy.
- Education: M.S. in Recreation and Leisure Studies from State University of New York at Brockport (2006), B.S. in Recreation and Leisure Studies from Houghton College (2000)
Boon's research focuses on therapeutic applications of equine partnerships, natural horsemanship methodologies, and the intersection of personal/professional growth with spiritual development. She has presented workshops at the Certified Horsemanship Association Region 5 Conference, EquiFest, and for Finger Lakes DDSO, while collaborating with colleagues to promote equine industry learning opportunities.
Her professional roles include Co-chair of the Sport, Recreation, and Wellness Department and serving as a Certified Horsemanship Association instructor. She has also worked as a recreation therapist with at-risk youth and individuals with developmental disabilities in Buffalo, NY, and developed Houghton's equine-assisted therapy minor.
Andrea lives in Houghton with her husband and three children on a hobby farm featuring horses, dogs, chickens, and a cat. She coaches youth soccer, volunteers with children's programs at Houghton Wesleyan Church, and actively involves Houghton students in her community life.
