Andrea Baumeister

Dr Andrea Baumeister is a Senior Lecturer in Politics at the University of Stirling. She joined the university in 1996 after teaching at the University of Manchester and holds a DPhil from the University of York on autonomy in multiculturalism debates. Her research focuses on liberal political philosophy, legitimacy, democratic participation, and citizenship in pluralist democracies. Current projects explore religion's role in the liberal public realm and tensions between gender equality and cultural justice. She has published widely on these themes, including works in Contemporary Political Theory and Constellations.

Her work critically examines frameworks for religious/secular citizen rights, gender dynamics in cultural contexts, and inclusive citizenship models. Recent publications analyze autonomy vs participation in minority women's empowerment and Habermas' limitations in conceptualizing religion's public role.
