Dr. Cere's research critically examines tensions between religious traditions and secular governance, with Religion and Public Policy forming the core of his scholarship. His work on Religious Freedom and Human Rights analyzes accommodation conflicts in multicultural societies, while his Sexuality and Marriage research investigates evolving legal frameworks for conjugal relationships. He integrates Catholic Social Thought with contemporary debates on gender, family law, and globalization, emphasizing ethical dimensions of policy-making.
Publication analysis reveals persistent themes across 12 works (2000-2015): early scholarship like The Experts' Story of Courtship (2000) established foundations in marriage sociology, while mid-career works including Divorcing Marriage (2005) dissected legal-religious tensions in family law. Later contributions such as Global Perspectives: Religion and Conflict (2015) expanded focus to international religious dynamics, consistently addressing how religious freedom interfaces with human rights in pluralistic contexts—particularly regarding gender and sexuality.
