Andrea Barbieri is an Associate Professor in the Department of Pathology at Yale School of Medicine, where she serves as Residency Program Director for the Anatomic and Clinical Pathology training program. She is a surgical pathologist with specialized expertise in gastrointestinal, liver, endocrine, and head and neck pathology, and is board certified in anatomic and clinical pathology.

Dr. Barbieri earned her BA from Case Western Reserve University (2005), her MD from Wayne State University (2009), completed her residency at Yale New Haven Hospital (2013), and a fellowship in gastrointestinal pathology at the Medical College of Wisconsin (2014).
Her research focuses on infectious diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, including syphilis and microvillus inclusion disease, as well as diagnostic challenges in thyroid and gastrointestinal neoplasms. She is particularly interested in improving diagnostic accuracy and quality in surgical pathology. Her work spans bacterial infections, viral hepatitis, hereditary cancer syndromes, and rare gastrointestinal disorders.
