Andrea Balbo is a Full Professor of Latin Language and Literature at the University of Turin and affiliated with the Faculty of Communication, Culture and Society at the University of Italian Switzerland (USI). He has held academic positions since 2004, transitioning from researcher to associate professor in 2019 and full professor in 2021. He directs the Roma Sinica series (De Gruyter) and co-leads the FISR SERICA project, focusing on Sino-European religious intersections in Central Asia.
Education:
- Graduated in Latin Literature (1994), University of Turin
- PhD in Greek and Latin Philology and Literature (1999)
His research spans Roman oratory and rhetoric (Cicero, Seneca, Quintilian), fragmentary forms, late antique prose/poetry (Aurelius Victor, Ausonius), and Neo-Latin studies, particularly Jesuit missionaries in Eastern Asia. He emphasizes classical teaching methodologies, including digital tools, and collaborates with institutions like MIUR and publishing houses (Petrini, De Agostini, Zanichelli).
