Alessio Ruta is an Adjunct Professor in the Latin Language and Literature sector (LATI-01/A) at the Department of Humanities, University of Catania. He holds a PhD in Greek-Latin Philology and Culture from the University of Palermo (2018) and has earned national scientific qualifications for Associate Professor roles in Greek and Latin disciplines. Active in research, he has collaborated with institutions such as the Seminar für klassische Philologie at Heidelberg University and served as Guest Professor in 2024.
- Graduated with honors in Classical Philology (University of Catania, 2013)
- Diploma in Greek Paleography (Vatican School, 2016, 30/30 cum laude)
- PhD in Greek-Latin Philology and Culture (University of Palermo, 2018)
His research focuses on Greek and Latin romance, Imperial Latin poetry, and late antique epistolary prose, with a specialization in textual criticism and paleography. He has edited critical works on Zenobius's Epitome proverbiorum and Quintus Aurelius Symmachus's Epistolary.
A member of the Association Internationale de Papyrologues and the Commission for the Linguistic Certification of Latin in Sicily, Ruta contributes to the PRIN 2022 project on Roman Orientalism: Mapping Cultural Interactions through Latin Literature (Ist c. BCE – IInd c. CE).
