Andrea Aldrich is a Senior Lecturer and Director of Undergraduate Studies in the Department of Political Science at Yale University. She holds a PhD from the University of Pittsburgh (2015) and a BA from the University of Minnesota (2005). Her research examines political representation, gender dynamics within political parties, and comparative political institutions, with a focus on Europe. Aldrich has published in leading journals such as The Journal of Politics and Party Politics, and her recent books include Gender Quotas as Game Changers (2025) and Glass Ceilings, Glass Cliffs, and Quicksands (2025). She serves as treasurer of the Midwest Political Science Association Women’s Caucus and is part of the Political Parties Database Project (PPDB).
Her research interests include gender and politics, party leadership selection, and electoral systems. She has explored how party organizations influence gender equality in elections and the impact of gender quotas on legislative qualifications. Recent work investigates queer party leaders' legitimacy and the effects of quotas on career paths of politicians.
Aldrich teaches courses such as Women and Politics, Comparative Electoral Systems, and Legacies of Communism in Europe. She has held postdoctoral fellowships at the University of Houston and Texas A&M, and was a Fulbright Scholar at the University of Zagreb. Her current projects include studies on valence politics and gendered electoral environments.
