Andre Son

Andre Son, MD, MS, is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Surgery at the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB). He holds an MD from the NYU Grossman School of Medicine (completed in 2017). His research focuses on cardiovascular surgery, transplantation medicine, and advanced imaging techniques, with a particular emphasis on topics such as extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), aortic reconstruction, and oncologic surgical challenges. Dr. Son has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals like the Journal of Cardiothoracic Surgery and Circulation: Cardiovascular Imaging, contributing to clinical guidelines for acute aortic syndromes and innovative imaging applications.

His research interests span cardiovascular surgery innovations, including 4D flow MRI for postoperative assessment and novel prosthetic grafts. He has investigated complications related to heart transplantation and ECMO use, as well as rare vascular pathologies such as vasa vasorum deficiencies. Dr. Son collaborates with multidisciplinary teams to advance surgical techniques and patient outcomes in complex cardiovascular cases.
