Andre Amaral

Dr. Andre Amaral is an Associate Professor in Respiratory Epidemiology & Global Health at Imperial College London's National Heart & Lung Institute (NHLI), part of the Faculty of Medicine. He leads the BOLD study and co-leads the Multi-morbidity Network in sub-Saharan Africa, focusing on chronic respiratory diseases' epidemiology, small lung syndrome, and cardiometabolic disease linkages. His work emphasizes global health equity, particularly in low-resource settings.

Education & Roles: Served as Chair of the European Respiratory Society's Epidemiology Group, Associate Editor for International Journal of Epidemiology, and teaches the Study Design module in Imperial's MSc Cardiovascular and Respiratory Healthcare. Active in the American and Pan-African Thoracic Societies' MECOR Program.

Research Interests: Chronic respiratory diseases' etiology, global lung health disparities, BOLD study's population-based analyses, and policy-informing evidence. Key areas include chronic cough's quality of life impact, lung volume-cardiometabolic disease links, and bronchodilator responsiveness in COPD progression.
