Andersen Øivind is a Professor of Classical Philology at the University of Oslo (1997–2014) and previously held positions including Director of the Norwegian Institute at Athens (1989–1993), Professor of Classics at the University of Trondheim (1980–1996), and Secretary General of the Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters (2010–2015). He currently serves on the Board of ALLEA and was President of the Union Académique Internationale (2013–2017).
Education: PhD in Classical Philology (1975, University of Oslo) with dissertation Paradeigmata. Beiträge zum Verständnis der Ilias, studies at Munich University (1971/72) and Heidelberg University (1975), and a sabbatical at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (1987–1988).
Research focuses on Homeric epic, ancient Greek rhetoric, philosophy, and tragedy. He has contributed to cultural diplomacy through roles like Greek state honor and initiatives promoting Nordic-Greek academic ties.

Leadership roles include chairing the Norwegian Research Council's Classical Studies Program (1995–2000) and directing IFIKK's research division (2005–2007). His career emphasizes institutional leadership alongside scholarly contributions.
