Anders Jensen is an Associate Professor of Public Policy at Harvard Kennedy School (HKS) and Research Co-Director of the State Program at the International Growth Centre. He holds affiliations as a Faculty Research Fellow at NBER and an International Research Associate at IFS. His research focuses on public and development economics, particularly tax policy, tax capacity, and governance in low- and middle-income countries. Jensen earned his PhD in Economics from the London School of Economics (2016) and conducted postdoctoral research at NBER. His work emphasizes empirical collaborations with governments in Ghana, Zambia, Liberia, and Brazil to improve tax administration and fiscal policy under capacity constraints.
Key research areas include the long-term evolution of tax systems, redistributive effects of consumption taxes, and the interplay between social norms and tax compliance. He has published in leading journals such as the Journal of Economic Perspectives and Review of Economic Studies. Sponsored projects include a USAID-funded initiative on local governance in Ghana. Jensen teaches courses like Public Finance in International Perspective and actively engages with global policy institutions, including the International Growth Centre and Tsinghua University's II Solutions group.
