Anders Holsgaard-Larsen

Anders Holsgaard-Larsen is a Professor in Clinical Biomechanics at the Department of Clinical Research, University of Southern Denmark, and is affiliated with the Orthopaedic Research Unit at Odense University Hospital. He also holds a visiting associate professorship at Karolinska Institutet, Department of Women's and Children's Health, Stockholm. He leads the gait and motion laboratory at OUH and is actively involved in translational research on musculoskeletal and orthopedic conditions.

He obtained his MSc in 2002 and PhD in 2007, both from the University of Southern Denmark, focusing on musculoskeletal function and biomechanical analysis. His postdoctoral work centered on shoulder and neck disorders. From 2014 to 2019, he was President of the Danish Association of Biomechanics and hosted ESMAC 2021.

His research focuses on translational biomechanics, utilizing methods like 3D motion analysis, electromyography, and patient-reported outcomes in populations ranging from children with cerebral palsy to elderly patients with osteoarthritis. He specializes in designing and conducting randomized controlled trials and leads a PhD course on optimizing RCTs at SDU.

The recent trend in his publications shows a strong emphasis on advanced biomechanical assessment techniques, including speckle-tracking ultrasonography for rotator cuff evaluation, gait analysis under body weight support, and footwear biomechanics. His work bridges clinical application with engineering solutions, particularly in rehabilitation robotics and injury prevention.

Laboratories and Teams: He heads the gait and motion laboratory at Odense University Hospital and collaborates extensively with interdisciplinary teams across SDU, OUH, and Karolinska Institutet, particularly in projects involving rehabilitation robotics, musculoskeletal imaging, and clinical trial design.
