Jesper Ryg

Jesper Ryg is a Professor at the Department of Clinical Research, University of Southern Denmark (SDU), with strong affiliations to Odense University Hospital (OUH). He is a key member of the Research Unit of Geriatrics (Odense) and AgeCare – Academy of Geriatric Cancer Research (Odense), where he leads and contributes to major research initiatives in aging, frailty, and cancer in older adults.

His research focuses on geriatric syndromes, including functional decline, fall risk, deprescribing, and geriatric assessment. He employs diverse methodologies such as cohort studies, randomized controlled trials, and systematic reviews. His work often explores the intersection of oncology and geriatrics, particularly in patients undergoing treatments like stereotactic radiation or chemotherapy.

The recent publications highlight a strong trend in evaluating physical performance (e.g., sit-to-stand tests), functional trajectories in cancer patients, and risk stratification for falls and hospitalization. His studies frequently use nationwide Danish registry data and twin cohorts, contributing to high-impact public health insights in geriatric medicine.
