Anders Anell is a Professor at the Department of Accounting and Corporate Finance at Lund University, with an affiliation at CIRCLE. He holds a PhD in Business Administration from Lund University (1991) and has extensive experience in healthcare economics and policy. He served as Director of the Swedish Institute for Health Economics (1992–2007) and has held advisory roles in multiple national and international healthcare organizations.
Research Focus: His work centers on healthcare governance, performance management, and primary care systems. Key interests include incentives in healthcare, resource allocation, and the impact of feedback systems on provider behavior. He has published over 200 articles in journals like Health Policy, BMC Health Services Research, and New England Journal of Medicine.
Teaching and Outreach: Teaches courses on performance measurement and management control in the Master’s program. Active in policy advisory roles, including the Swedish Agency for Health and Care Services Analysis and the Board of KEFU. His research has influenced healthcare reforms in Sweden and internationally.
Recent Work: Recent studies examine audit & feedback mechanisms in primary care, socioeconomic disparities in healthcare utilization, and the role of named GPs in continuity of care. Ongoing projects focus on managing complex healthcare challenges through innovative governance and performance systems.
