Stevenson's research focuses on feminist history and transnational social movements from the nineteenth to twenty-first centuries. Her work examines the intersections of women's suffrage, gender violence, abolitionism, and women's liberation movements. She has made significant contributions to understanding how historical contexts shape contemporary social justice issues, particularly through her analysis of gender violence in Australian history.
Her publications reveal consistent engagement with how historical movements for social change inform current activism. Analysis of her scholarly output shows particular attention to cultural representations of women's movements, the historical roots of gender-based violence, and comparative studies of social movements across national contexts. Her work bridges academic scholarship with public engagement through media contributions to outlets like The Conversation and The Washington Post.
