Dr. Ana Rita Barreiros is a clinical psychologist and neuroscience researcher at the University of New South Wales, School of Medicine & Health. She specializes in treatment-resistant depression and interventional psychiatry, integrating advanced neuroimaging methods with clinical expertise to improve psychiatric treatment outcomes. Dr. Barreiros has extensive experience leading clinical trials and has worked across leading research institutions in Portugal and Australia.
Her research interests focus on identifying MRI and EEG markers in mood disorders and schizophrenia, investigating neurostimulation, ketamine, and emerging psychedelic therapies. She currently leads the coordination and implementation of the CARE Network and RAFT-ECT Trial, and serves as the Sydney site principal investigator for the OptiTMS Trial. Dr. Barreiros contributes to several NHMRC, ARC, and industry-funded research projects and RCTs.
Dr. Barreiros' research portfolio demonstrates significant contributions to understanding the neural networks underlying treatment-resistant depression, optimizing electroconvulsive therapy protocols, and advancing novel treatments for severe mood disorders.
