Ana Miljacki is Professor of Architecture at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), serving as Director of the SMArchS Programs and SMArchS AD Program. She teaches design, history, and theory, with prior appointments at Columbia University, Harvard University Graduate School of Design, and City College of New York. Her research examines Cold War-era Eastern European architecture, postmodernism under late socialism, and the politics of contemporary architectural production.
Education: PhD in History & Theory of Architecture (Harvard University, 2007); M.Arch (Rice University); B.A. (Bennington College).
Research Interests include the role of architects in socialist regimes, curatorial practices, and the global influence of architectural offices. She co-curated the 2014 Venice Architecture Biennale's US Pavilion project Office US, analyzing 20th-century American architectural practices. She launched MIT's Critical Broadcasting Lab in 2018, focusing on curatorial and media projects.
Publications include The Optimum Imperative (2017), co-edited volumes in the OfficeUS series, and journal issues on collaborative design and pedagogy. Her work bridges historical analysis with contemporary architectural discourse.
Professional Activities include editorial roles for LOG and JAE, as well as symposium curation. She actively engages in debates about architectural education and the profession's societal role.
