Ana Maria Belchior serves as Associate Professor (with Habilitation) in the Department of Political Science and Public Policy at ISCTE-IUL (University Institute of Lisbon) and is an Integrated Researcher at CIES-Iscte - Center for Research and Studies in Sociology. She currently coordinates the Master's in Political Science program and holds multiple administrative positions including Director of the PhD in Political Science program (2024-2026) and Deputy Director of the Master's Degree in Political Science.
Her research focuses on democracy, political representation, political attitudes and behaviors, public opinion, and agenda-setting. She has participated in numerous research projects examining topics such as the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on Portuguese political systems, agenda setting in Portugal from comparative perspectives, immigration attitudes in Portugal, and political representation in Southern Europe. Her work has been published in prestigious journals including Comparative Political Studies, International Political Science Review, Party Politics, Sociological Methods & Research, Journal of Contemporary European Studies, and Journal of Legislative Studies.
Dr. Belchior has received annual scientific recognition through ISCTE awards from 2011-2023, including both research and pedagogical distinctions. She actively participates in major research networks including the Comparative Agendas Project (since 2013), COMPARE-Net (since 2016), and the Party Pledges Network (since 2017). She has organized numerous international conferences and workshops, particularly focusing on democratic representation, political behavior, and comparative politics.
