Ana Isabel Vitas Pemán

Ana Isabel Vitas Pemán is a Professor of Microbiology at the University of Navarra, affiliated with the Faculty of Pharmacy and Nutrition and the Department of Microbiology and Parasitology. She leads the Food and Water Microbiology Laboratory, which holds GLP certification and provides analytical and research services to agri-food, pharmaceutical, chemical, and materials industries.

Her research focuses on Food Microbiology, including microbiological risk assessment, Listeria monocytogenes, food safety, probiotics, and antibiotic resistance in the One Health context. She has led 25 corporate contracts, participated in 24 national/regional and 3 EU-funded projects, and co-authored 54 peer-reviewed journal articles and 12 book chapters. Her work also explores antimicrobial activity of surfaces in collaboration with industry partners.

With over 25 years of experience managing business-university collaborations, she specializes in quality management systems (ISO 17025, GLP) for stability and antimicrobial efficacy studies. She has supervised 6 doctoral theses, 21 Master’s theses, and 33 Bachelor’s theses.
