Dr. Ana Isabel Nunes is a Senior Lecturer in Social Research Methods at the Department of Social and Political Sciences, Nottingham Trent University (NTU). She holds a PhD in Politics and International Relations from NTU (2019) and an MA in Communication, Culture, and Information Technologies from ISCTE-IUL, Lisbon. Her research focuses on youth political participation, alternative methodologies in political studies, and arts-based approaches for social transformation.
Teaching responsibilities include leading undergraduate Theory and Methods and postgraduate Researching Political Issues modules, alongside contributing to Politics and International Relations courses. She currently serves as Course Leader for the MA Politics program and co-leads the Citizenship, Democracy and Transformation research group.
Publications emphasize youth engagement with environmental politics, UN development goals, and innovative research methods. Her work bridges qualitative and quantitative approaches to political participation analysis, reflecting her commitment to methodological pluralism.
Her academic contributions span journals like Journal of Youth Studies and Education, Citizenship and Social Justice, alongside chapters in major handbooks such as The Oxford Handbook of Political Participation (2021). Research highlights include exploring postmaterialist values in youth activism and evaluating educational frameworks for fostering civic engagement.
