Dre Ana Inés Ansaldo is a Full Professor at the Université de Montréal’s École d'orthophonie et d’audiologie and Director of the Brain Plasticity, Communication, and Aging Laboratory at the CRIUGM. Her research focuses on neuroplasticity mechanisms in language recovery (aphasia, dementia), bilingualism’s cognitive benefits, and technology-driven interventions for elderly communication.
She holds a Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences from Université de Montréal and completed postdoctoral training at McGill University. Her work has been recognized with awards such as the IRSC’s Aging Institute Special Prize (2002) and the Fondation des maladies du coeur du Canada Excellence Award.
Key research projects include developing the COMPAs app to support communication in dementia care, studying bilingualism’s protective effects against cognitive decline, and investigating neurofunctional markers of therapy efficacy in aphasia. She has supervised doctoral theses on topics like phonological therapy and cross-linguistic transfer.
Recent articles highlight bilingualism’s impact on attentional control and the effectiveness of speech therapy in chronic aphasia. Her grants include CIHR funding for neuroplasticity research and initiatives addressing social isolation in aging populations.
