Ana Campilho is a Research Fellow at CIBIO-InBIO, University of Porto, specializing in plant developmental genetics. Her work focuses on understanding genetic mechanisms controlling plant stem cell niches, vascular development, and protective tissue formation like periderm. She holds a PhD in Developmental Genetics from Utrecht University (2005), with post-doctoral training at the University of Helsinki and the Institute for Molecular and Cell Biology in Porto.
Her research explores how plants maintain continuous growth while performing critical functions like support and protection. Current projects investigate genetic regulation of cork (phellem) development, with implications for agricultural and industrial applications. She has contributed to studies on zinc deficiency response mechanisms in Arabidopsis and collaborated on projects like ROCKinBIO and CellDivCork.
Publications span topics including transcription factor regulation, root development, and plant-microbe interactions. Projects include molecular analysis of cork formation and zinc homeostasis in crops.
