Dr. Ana Andries is a Lecturer in Sustainability Assessment and Remote Sensing/GIS at the University of Surrey, specializing in Earth Observation (EO), spatial analysis, and climate change resilience. She holds a PhD in Earth Science from the University of Surrey, focusing on EO data for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). She leads projects like Space4Nature and Conservation and Rural Enterprising, integrating EO and citizen science to address biodiversity, carbon sequestration, and socio-economic challenges. Her work spans habitat mapping in Uganda, environmental auditing, and EO applications for education and policy.
Research interests include EO technologies, climate adaptation, biodiversity conservation, and socio-economic indicators like poverty and corruption. She teaches modules on Remote Sensing/GIS and Environmental Assessment at the Centre for Environment and Sustainability. Her projects have secured funding from the Garfield Weston Foundation and the Dream Fund, engaging over 1,500 volunteers in habitat restoration efforts.
Key projects include Space4Nature (partners with Surrey Wildlife Trust and Buglife), exploring EO for wildlife habitat monitoring, and Space for Subsistence Farming, using EO for sustainable land management. She also contributed to Examining Adaptation and Resilience Frameworks, highlighting data quality’s role in climate policy.
