Dr. Ana Aceska is an Assistant Professor in Cultural Geography at Wageningen University's WASS School. Her research focuses on urban informality, sound studies, and socio-spatial divides in cities like Abuja, Nigeria, and global metropolises such as Shanghai, Berlin, and London.
Her work combines ethnographic methods with critical urban theory, addressing topics like squatter settlements governance, resistance movements in informal urban spaces, and the role of sensory experiences (e.g., sound) in shaping urban identities. She co-supervises multiple PhD projects on themes including intangible cultural heritage, rural-urban migration in Nepal, and post-capitalist nature values.
Key projects include exploring urban informality in Nigeria, heritage integration in climate strategies, and hiking as place-making in Lebanon. She actively contributes to debates on academic collaboration transparency and has published widely on divided cities and infrastructure's health impacts.
Her interdisciplinary approach bridges sociology, geography, and anthropology, with a focus on marginalized urban populations and contested spaces.
