Dr. Allen Xiao is an Assistant Professor of Geography at the National University of Singapore (NUS). His research focuses on urban and cultural geographies, particularly in African metropolises like Lagos, Nigeria, and African diasporic communities in Asia. He holds a Doctor of Geography from the University of Wisconsin–Madison.
Research Interests: His work bridges human geography, cultural anthropology, and urban studies, exploring urban subjectivity, mobility, transnational linkages, and postcolonial discourse. Current projects include studies on African startup ecosystems, informal transport systems, and Southeast Asia-Africa ideological mobilities.
Teaching: He teaches courses such as GE4225: Young People and Children: Global Perspectives and GE3248: Cities in Transition.
Languages: English, Mandarin, Yoruba.
