Amya Agarwal

Dr. Amya Agarwal is a Lecturer in International Relations at the School of Sociological Studies, Politics and International Relations, University of Sheffield. Her research focuses on feminist perspectives in international relations, gender in armed conflict, and critical analyses of masculinities and motherhood in South Asian contexts.

• Education: BA, MA, MPhil, PhD (Political Science) from University of Delhi

Her work examines gendered dynamics in conflict and post-conflict settings, particularly in Kashmir, with an emphasis on masculinities, motherhood, and artistic responses to violence. She is currently involved in a Swedish Research Council-funded project on 'sexual violence along the war and peace continuum'.

Recent publications explore intersections of academic precarity, visual storytelling, and transnational solidarity among early-career researchers. She actively supervises PhD students in feminist and critical IR, gender and conflict in South Asia, and transitional justice.

Professional roles include co-chairing the Feminist Theory and Gender Section (FTGS) at the International Studies Association (2025-2026) and serving as a Research Associate at the Arnold Bergstraesser Institute, Freiburg. Teaching modules include 'Analysing Global Challenges' and 'Politics of Security'.
