Amy Wood is an Adjunct Professor of English and Adjunct Faculty at Cumberland University's Millard and JJ Oakley School of Humanities, Education, and the Arts. She specializes in songwriting, creative writing, and stage performance pedagogy. Educated at Amherst College (M.A., Magna cum laude) and Spalding University (M.F.A., Creative Writing), her expertise spans music, literature, and arts education.
Her research and creative work include critically acclaimed albums like 'The American Dream' (2024) and 'How To Sleep in a Stormy Boat' (2013), the latter named among the Top 100 Records of the Last Century. She also authored To The Performer: A Singer-Songwriter’s Handbook (2024), synthesizing decades of teaching songwriting and stagecraft at festivals, camps, and Berklee College of Music masterclasses.
Amy’s awards include the 2020 Americana Music Association International Song of the Year for 'Me and the Ghost of Charlemagne.' Her music career spans collaborations with Thirty Tigers and Wildflower Records, with performances featured on NPR and Billboard Magazine. She has been published in New York Times, Salon.com, and Performing Songwriter, bridging musical and literary arts.
