Amy Williams is Professor of Composition, Piano, and Music Theory at the University of Pittsburgh's Department of Music, where she also serves as Director of Graduate Admissions. She holds a PhD from University at Buffalo (1999) and is an active composer-pianist whose work merges modernist aesthetics with polystylistic approaches. Her compositions often feature specific performers and focus on chamber music.
Her research explores connections between music and painting, poetry, film, and philosophy, with rhythmic complexity and expanded instrumental sound worlds. Recent courses include Composition and Analysis Tutorial, Musical Analysis, Music Since 1945, and Senior Seminar in Experimental Music.
