Dr Amy Spooner is a Research Fellow at the Cancer and Palliative Care Outcomes Centre, School of Nursing, and the Centre for Healthcare Transformation, Faculty of Health, Queensland University of Technology. She is also a Visiting Fellow at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital. With over 10 years of specialist experience in critical care nursing, including six years as a Nurse Researcher, Dr Spooner has made significant contributions to nursing research, education, and quality and safety in healthcare.

Research Interests:
Dr Spooner's research focuses on aged care, nurse-led models, acute deterioration, and palliative and end-of-life care in aged care facilities. She has extensive experience in handover communication, early warning systems, lung volumes and ventilation distribution, skin perfusion relating to pressure injuries, intravascular device securement, and health service evaluation. Her recent work in handover communication led to the implementation of evidence-based electronic handover tools and an educational video for the National Safety and Quality Health Service Standards.

Grants and Funding:
Dr Spooner has successfully secured multiple grant funds for investigator-led research, including a recent grant for developing an early warning score for acute deterioration in residential aged care. She is currently managing a national trial investigating non-pharmacological interventions for chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy.
